Get started

Add an MCP server

Open a project folder in Studio, or connect a prebuilt server.

Studio works on one or more MCP servers at a time. Each one you add becomes a project in Studio, shown in the project card at the top of the sidebar. When you open a project, Studio starts the server, connects to it, and loads its tools, resources, prompts, and tasks.

Open a project folder

Choose the folder

In the project card, choose Add / Manage Projects. Select your project's folder, the one that contains package.json, and click Connect.

Check the connection

The project card shows the project's name and three fields. Status reads Connected once Studio has reached the server. Transport shows how it's connected, usually STDIO for a local project. Watch shows whether Studio reloads the server when you save a file.

Explore what it offers

Open App Canvas to see everything the server exposes, or go straight to Tools to run one.

If the status doesn't change to Connected, run npm run build in the project folder and fix any errors it reports, then try again. Logs shows what the server printed while it started.

Connect a prebuilt server

Studio's marketplace connects well-known MCP servers in one step, such as GitHub, Figma, Linear, Jira, Supabase, and Vercel. These servers run elsewhere, so you don't need their code. If a server requires you to sign in, Studio handles the OAuth flow and keeps the credentials on your machine; see Authentication.

Work with several servers

You can connect several projects at once. Each keeps its own session, and you switch between them from the project card. In All mode, Studio combines the tools of every connected project, so a single chat can use them together. This is useful when your app relies on another server, for example your own server plus GitHub.
